No, not legit.

- submitted by Dingobilly. on 09/09/2009

Completely shopped.

I'm sorry but there's no way. The font, even the color, is off.

Actually, what's wrong is

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

Actually, what's wrong is the "Welcome .99 cents". This would mean that the lowest price is $0.0099, instead of $0.99.

Lots of these

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

I've seen a ton of these places, it's ridiculous but not uncommon. You travel in the less desirable neighborhood and you see them. A popular one is the .98+ store. Everything is 98 or up.

Neat concept

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

That's funny and a neat idea. The owners very obviously know this and are just making fun of it. Nothing wrong with that. It's not like they are stupid or trying to trick anyone, it's just a great marketing plan. If I was in the area I'd stop by just to get my picture taken in front of that sign and I'd probably spend a couple of bucks to pick up an item or two. That's a joke too (seems some people need them pointed out), but I would go.

indeed.....

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

you can't blame them for trying....

its Psychology! these guys

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

its Psychology! these guys are smart. people can see that it says 99 cents or more, but the fact that it says 99 cents draws people in. the funny part is that it works! its the same basic principle as selling things for 99 cents rather than a dollar. it seems cheaper, so customers will pay for it! its not that the customer is stupid, its just that they want things cheap. and so the store projects and promotes the cheaper part of their store! hey, whatever works i guess.

It's fake. Look at how all

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

It's fake. Look at how all the words slant except the word "more." The color is off (both blue and white). Even those transparent signs in the windows, the words "more" are just off. Why do people both with fake crap like this? They just want to submit something that will get attention.

Jackasses

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

I love when jackasses come on and show off their pro shooping knowledge by claiming how this and that look completely fake, even when it's confirmed by other posters AND google street view. Google was shooping their images? GTFO.

who cares

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

the dollar is falling to the gutter so even shite sold for 99c will see its price inflating whilst its value will keep decreasing. That's what you get for relocating to China and bailing the bankers out.

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

Maybe low income areas are just full of imbeciles but I see stores that say 99 cents and Up all the time. It's a really common phenomena in poor areas.

Took me a while to understand the joke because of it aamof.

another one

- submitted by Dandy on 09/09/2009

There is a similar store a few miles from me that says "99 Cents 'N' More". Basically, it only promises is that nothing is under 99 cents!

You fail at Internet humor.

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

Please get a clue. In shops like this, most items are 99c. Obviously there are some items priced above 99c, hence the sign. It's perfectly logical. (The ".99c" is a bit weird, but that's hardly going to be misinterpreted.) This photo is not funny. You are obviously desperate to get a laugh, but you haved failed at Internet humor. sry kthxbai

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

This sign is idiotic. There may be other stores that say 99cents and charge more but there aren't many that advertise as 99 and more. I know why doesn't Nieman Marcus and Bloomingdales use the same sign, they might as well, lol

Dear resident experts on "clearly photoshopped" pictures

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/09/2009

spend a little less time behind your computer and a little more time in neighborhoods that don't look like yours. Where I live, its not only common, its the only kind.

take a look at some more examples before you spout off with your unmistakable knowledge of photoshop. always so quick to call everyone out.

IT'S NOT THE "or more" PART THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Looks like most of these commenters failed the IQ test. Big surprise. look at the sign on the door

Yes, people...the joke isn't

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/20/2009

Yes, people...the joke isn't the "or more" part. It's the .99¢ part. If it's "point ninety-nine cents," that's less than a penny. I see this mistake all the time and it drives me crazy. But don't get me started on common mistakes (between you and I, ATM machine/PIN number, etc).

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/20/2009

it's an T.Q. test, not a sense of humor test. the yellow sign actually says that everything is < a cent and up.

I Know it's true

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/20/2009

I know this sign is actual, I've seen it! Drive up to Paterson, NJ and you will see more just like it, guaranteed! People have no concept of the English language.

This one is better!

I pass this store in Brooklyn and everytime I die laughing!

It says funny picture whats funny about .99 cents! Stop overthinking it! Its the or more part!

Is it more ridiculous than

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/20/2009

Is it more ridiculous than the old five and dime? Do we believe that everything in those was priced at five cents or ten cents, just the majority of items could be purchased in a quantity of those prices. And has been pointed out, this is way too common to qualify as funny.

Why would you call it the

- submitted by Jayke on 09/20/2009

Why would you call it the .99 cent store and right under the LARGE 99cent sign ,put .99 cents or more ,you are decieving people to get them in your store ,now if you have at least 50% of your products at 99 cents ,then ok ,but if not ,change the name.

Yeah "EVERYTHING 99 CENT OR

- submitted by Jayke on 09/20/2009

Yeah "EVERYTHING 99 CENT OR MORE" "EVERYTHING" ,WHAT A JOKE

what isn't funny

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/20/2009

<whats funny about .99 cents>

$.99 isn't funny 99 c isn't funny

but 1 c is .01, so .99 c is less than a penny... funny considering these people are taking your money and calculating what you owe....

although the 'and more' has it's own cheesy charm

It's "photoshopped" or "'shopped." You are just as bad. Proper English and punctuation is necessary.

I knew a lot of Americans

- submitted by Anonymous on 09/20/2009

I knew a lot of Americans were stupid but the sign AND the comments I have read below it prove and all time low of stupidity in this country.

The picture IS NOT altered in Photoshop and those who think it is need to actually learn how to use more then just aim, and actually get a cable connection finally. And I say that because you are probably rednecks in a trailer park or just raised by rednecks. And if that is not the case well... then we all know America is doomed. Anyway even the other comments about "that would mean it's less then 99 cents... Are really stupid too. However I give a huge "thumbs up" to the person posting it is not altered and to "look it up" they obviously have a brain.

(GOD I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THE EDUCATION AND GRAMMAR OF THIS COUNTRY NO WONDER OUR ECONOMY IS DYING)

99c or MORE

There is one just like it on Germantown Avenue, somewhere between Erie and Lehigh in Philadelphia

We have one of these on Riverside Dr. In Austin, TX too. I laugh to myself every morning when I see it on the bus to school. You just can't help but find ridiculous signs like that hillarious.

WoW am I retarted?

- submitted by Tiphanie on 10/10/2009

Last time I checked if u put a decimal point in front of a number in a case of money, it only means "less than a dollar" not less than a penny otherwise there would be a 0 after the decimal not an actual number....so am I retarted? If I am, please let me know... so then I can let the other ratards [that are screaming to let someone know that the picture is "SHOPPED"] know they can stfu, because that's not the point of the picture nor is it shopped. So take your heads out of the digital worlds ass and wake up.

P.S this article is really old

- submitted by Tiphanie on 10/10/2009

and didn't need to be brought up again.

Re: WoW am I retarded?

- submitted by davidh on 10/11/2009

Compare the amounts "$1" and "$.99". "$1" refers to a higher amount. "$0.99" and "$.99" refer to the same amount, because leading zeroes don't change the value of the number.

Likewise, the amount "1¢" refers to a higher amount than ".99¢", while "0.99¢" and ".99¢" refer to the same amount.

Good marketing

- submitted by Veronica on 10/12/2009

The clever thing about this store sign is that it *looks* like a mistake but it isn't. It's good marketing. The store owners know exactly what they're doing. Sociologists have a very technical sounding term for it: the anchor adjustment heuristic. Jot it down to impress your friends at a party :) If people have no strong expectations of what they want to spend, give them a number (an anchor). It doesn't matter whether the number actually means anything, it subconsciously gives people a starting point to adjust their expectations from. In this case the anchor is low, so people will think they're getting a bargain even if they end up spending more than they would have otherwise. P. T. Barnum would have loved it.
