If Sanjaya Can Do It, Why Can't Our Kids?

Woman 1: We're adjusting, ya know? It's not like the city out here.

Woman 2: Whaddya mean?

Woman 1: Like, is there any music around here, at night?

Woman 2: Coffee house, Saturday night has a band.

Woman 1: Isn't that one high school kids?

Woman 2: Be thankful it's not middle school. Middle school is Tuesdays. Pre-teen jazz fusion. They won't be confused with Miles Davis....overhear more

This is me, sort of. 2 years out of the city, living in Westchester NY and missing like crazy the entertainment and stuff to do.

If I could find a good middle school band now, I'd thank the stars! And Miles Davis was overrated anyway!

Miles Davis was not overrated. He was brilliant, a total genius. Fact that he got inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame is an insult to him and all jazz musicians.

He's up there in the pantheon of musical greats. Led by Satchmo and a few others.

Enjoy the middle school jazz band but don't confuse it with Miles.

My son is in the middle school band. I love my son, I know Miles Davis music, and my son is no Miles Davis.

But you take what you can get. I'm outside Chicago and our middle school band is about as good as it gets right here.

I used to live in NYC. Now I'm in NJ burbs. We've got pretty good music out here. And it's not school bands. Jazz especially is good since there are so few paying venues anywhere for jazz.

Get over the burbs-hate and enjoy what's around. It's not Paris, but it's not podunk either. (No offesne to Podunk if it's a real town? Is it?)

We saw a jazz group in a nearby town last weekend. They were awful! The place had no cover and drinks were cheap but I'd have paid real money just to hear somebody who could pull off mediocrity at least.

I'm still suffering city

I'm still suffering city withdrawels out here in the boonies. We live in a big house, with lots of lawn and I'm bored out of my mind.

A huge mistake moving from city but my husb insisted. Last time I'll defer to him on big decisions.

Thank God for HBO, that's all I can say, and Netflix.

I'm with you, citymissing. I've never watched more TV in my life since we moved out here (outside Philadelphia). I've become a drone. Drone drone drone. A stepford wife almost. Yuk!
