And how come they look at us with such complete disdain when we quickly back away from them, afraid they're going to ram us, which they will (we're positive), because they've tried before (sort of), in fact tried to get into our house last week by crashing into our thankfully unexpectedly strong reinforced screen door. We embrace our deer; all we wish is that we could co-exist, that they could be a little more flexible, a little more sensitive and understanding, a little more in touch with the concept of sharing. We used to try to scare our deer away. Now I swear it they seem to laugh when we try. It's their backyard too and we're just visiting, that's their attitude. How did this happen? What do they call this, a defining moment? Inflection point. We have 4 or 5 regulars and they're never leaving. I hate deer so much and - submitted by deerdeer on 05/07/2007
I hate deer so much and that's sad because I used to love them as a kid. They refuse to leave our property. My daughter got lime disease. They poop all over. They don't seem to care at all about us. I called our police station and they said maybe they could shoot them or something. We said that's not necessary. That's ugly, but now we're rethinking. This rant is great. This rant is great. It is a giant question. How do the deer go from timid and scared to fearless. We left a door open for a second and 3 deer entered our house. It was terrifying because they must've felt cornered and started crashing into walls, going crazy. We live in central NJ, near Bridgwater. There are no woods. Where do they come from? Net and bolt. Net and bolt. - submitted by Anonymous on 05/07/2007
Net and bolt. Net and bolt. It's the humane inhumane way to rid yourselves of deer. Try it some time, the deer will love it. deer are our friends. so are - submitted by Anonymous on 05/07/2007
deer are our friends. so are mice and rats and cockroahces. we share all with all. that way we find peace and calm and don't throw up all day Net & bolting is a trend now - submitted by animalliker on 05/07/2007
Net & bolting is a trend now in some areas for "humanely" reducing deer populations in suburban areas. It is not humane. It's catching the deer in a net and then shooting a steel bolt into its brain. That doesn't sound fun does it? Deer are friendly and harmless. Leave them alone! I'd be happy to leave the - submitted by deernotliker on 05/07/2007
I'd be happy to leave the deer alone if they would stop monopolozing our yard. I wouldn't even mind sharing with them. But when we want to play on the lawn or swing on the swings, they just stay there. They won't move. They start making unhappy noises. I don't advocate bolts shot into animals heads. But something has to be done. Haven't some towns adopted - submitted by Anonymous on 05/07/2007

Unruly neighbors do need a penalty. A bolt through the brain may be excessive though. I do like netting them. Yes, netting could work, I'm going to suggest it to our Mayor who should be the first neighbor netted! Have no fear the deer are - submitted by Anonymous on 05/09/2007

Expert, you should explain to my dog that deer don't charge. She's got a broken leg and a face full of bruises from when the deer tried to get into our car! I'm sure he was just being friendly and all. We didn't even try to scat the deer away. We were only getting into the car. Maybe he thought it was his car too It's deer - just shoot and - submitted by Anonymous on 06/11/2007

Deer attack and injure more people than any other wild animal. They have even been known to kill people. This is especially true during their mating season. These are not tame animals like you find in a "Petting Zoo", These are WILD ANIMALS and should be treated as such. I don't think anyone would like a pack of "Pit Bulls" roaming around their back yard, and wild deer are not much different !! The Big Questions -- 3 - submitted by celtan on 06/11/2007
Can't you use a Taser? Or a paint-ball gun? Or tear-gas? They may be "convinced" to leave the area and find greener pastures... don't build - submitted by Anonymous on 06/11/2007
You build houses where they live and you are the one invading there territory. stop the spraw and they will leave you alone. Deer and Pit Bulls - submitted by Mr. Happy on 06/11/2007
Leave the Pit Bulls out of this. They are domestic animals and don't taste very good... Deer however..... I know exactly what this - submitted by usedtolovedeer on 06/11/2007
I know exactly what this ranter is talking about. We have 3 deer move into our yard and they got bolder & bolder. If I could've given them 1/2 our deed I would've, if they'd have just let us use our backyard occasionally! one finally did attack our daughter when we were leaving the house and going to our car. that's when we got the town involved and they took "care" of it. i'm sure it wasn't a good outcome for the deer but my daughter was nearly run over by them. it's funny and almost unbelievable what a nuisance they can be. but also they're genuinely scary and not so compatible with people living around them I'm a lawyer and I've never - submitted by deerlawyer on 06/11/2007
I'm a lawyer and I've never done a deed transfer to a deed. But I'd like to try one. If anyone you know is interested, let me know. I'll take it all the way to the Supremje Court! deers don't charge? - submitted by Anonymous on 06/11/2007
About 4 years ago a deer crashed through 2 plateglass doors and completed trashed the first office it came to where I worked. This was only about 6 blocks from the town square in a heavily populated area. It apparently followed the railroad tracks into town and then got scared and ran through the doors. So, yes, wild deer do charge. lion growl - submitted by Anonymous on 06/11/2007
I just thought of a solution. You know, what might work? Get a big woofer(base) woofer that is. Build a box to protect speaker and have speaker situated as close the ground as possible, what I am saying is, pointed down, about an inch from the ground. Now, you can hook this speaker up to powerful amp. 200 watt plus. trick is to get a rocording of a lion or tiger roaring, repeat the sound of roar over an over toward the ground, the dear will run, no doubt in mind. if you don't try this you will never know. Large Carnivore Scent - submitted by Anonymous on 06/11/2007
It has been fiund, in Australia where they do not have large carnivores, that the urine scent from tigers for example, deters other animals from the area. Try that. Net & Bolt - submitted by Anonymous on 06/11/2007
All I want to know is where is all that meat going from all you people doing the Netting and Bolting?? Ever heard of venison steaks The deer are here! - submitted by Phil on 06/11/2007
Hunting is supposed to help control the deer population, but some communities don't allow it anymore. What a shame! Deer are NOT domestic animals, despite the efforts of a few nuts (sorry) to prove otherwise. The deer population has to be thinned, and there are plenty of homeless shelters that could use the meat. deer feeding - submitted by fred on 06/11/2007
We have similar problems here in Chester, CA. Many residents feed deer. Unfortunately, this behavior makes the deer less fearful of humans and all too often alters the deer's natural migration instinct which makes for a long winter (if they make it) here in the mountains. My advise...stop feeding the deer, they are wild animals and do a great job finding food on their own. |
