- added on 08/16/2007 Thieves Say SUV Seats As Good As Gold Who knew those third-row seats in the back of your SUV, the row where you stuff the kids or friends you really don't like, would become "the" hot item on thieves' shopping stealing lists. According to Edmunds, they're now being stolen in record numbers and the trend is rising.
Why so attractive? Apparently the seats are expensive to replace -- so they get good money on the black market. They're easily popped into other SUVS, including different models. And many contain no serial numbers -- totally untraceable.
It used to be all you needed to worry about was high-end stereo systems, or a wallet you inadvertently left in the car. Now it's seats. What's next, floor mats? Or the little thingamajiggy that goes into the "cigarette lighter" space that prevents you from electrocuting yourself?
