- added on 05/15/2008 Contractors Have Feelings Too It's true. Those lugs who come into your house wielding massive power tools, and tear down your walls and floors and ceiling and, if you're lucky, build them back up...they feel genuinely hurt by your insensitivities. Also frustrated, disappointed, enraged. Home contractors are people too, according to the NY Times. And they want homeowners to treat them better, more respectfully, and not like some hoard of humanoid intruders who barely speak English and function mariginally in some alien netherworld of unrelenting dirt and grime and gladiatorial tough guy survival.
Many contractors, it turns out, are sick of selfish, self-involved, insulting and just plain annoying clients. In fact, one such contractor recently wrote a piece for Burbia in which he laid out 10 things he'd really like to say to his clients...One thing: I'm not a f-ing babysitter; so keep your "cute" kids away from the work area.
Contractors in therapy? Apparently, according to the Times. Of course, better they vent their feelings to a shrink than express them through slightly more imaginative (and destructive) uses of their jack hammers and power saws than originally intended by the power tool manufacturers.
