Consider This...The Stupidest Exercise Machine You'll Ever See

Sometimes you come upon something so ridiculous, so on-its-face laughably stupid, you just want to stop everything and enjoy. That's what we did when we first saw this investors-demo video of SpeedFit, a new concept in exercise technology:The Mobile Treadmill...a treadmill designed specially to move/walk down the street while you're treading.

Because, let's see, walking down the street without a treadmill is too tough?

Check it out...

The proud creators of SpeedFit are now looking for investors. Seriously -- and this vid is their pitch. Sure, if you want to walk or run down the street for exercise, you can...walk or run down the street. But, with SpeedFit, now you can do the exact same thing only on a contraption that costs a ton of money, is a pain in the ass (it's one heavy mo-fo), is a potential traffic hazard and can only barely turn corners. Kind of like marketing a spanking new heart-lung ventilator-machine to 100% healthy people who are perfectly capable of breathing on their own. Sign us up! ...read more rants

Pimp my, uh, SpeedFit?

Now, if a person could just

- submitted by Anonymous on 11/18/2008

Now, if a person could just market a stationary stand for it so that during inclement weather you could use it inside your house! Wow, I want to patent that!

Well, it's not quite as

- submitted by Anonymoose on 11/18/2008

Well, it's not quite as stupid as I thought it was before watching the video...or maybe it's just stupid on a higher plane.

The thing looks like it's geared up so that you move faster than you would if you were just running on the ground and moving your legs at the same speed. In other words, it does the same thing that a bicycle does. Thus, getting exercise on this thing is not really any more stupid than getting exercise by riding a bicycle, and I've never heard anyone say that getting your exercise by bicycling is stupid because you can exercise just as well by using your legs to run instead of pedal a bike.

On the other hand, if your idea of fun exercise is moving fast by applying human leg power to a machine, why not just buy a bicycle? It will probably cost less, it takes up less room, you can ride it in more places, it's more maneuverable, and you can go faster.

They did this on MST3K back in the early 90's

I would rather invest in an exercise machine that places a treadmill underneath the Speedfit.

The TWO-PERSON Mode

- submitted by Ron Low on 11/19/2008

The TWO-PERSON Mode is the most interesting feature. My wife and I could run together on this. Without it I'd have to run rings around her to get any exercise.

Brilliant! Except...

- submitted by on 11/19/2008

Around where I live, there are cars on the streets. This is too wide for sidewalks and too big and slow to safely share the roads with cars, in my opinion. If you have endless wide paved roads no one is using (as shown in the video), then perhaps it is basically the equivalent of running on a treadmill outside, which is fine, provided you have room to store it, which I don't. But taking it out on actual roads you have to share with cars and trucks would, I think, be quite problematic. That ain't fitting in the bike lane.

Is this for real?

- submitted by Anonymous on 11/20/2008

Anyone knows if this is serious. I hardly believe this is for real? If this is serious, it is a weard country with weard people.

Everything has a use

- submitted by DeanG on 11/20/2008

You guys are as obnoxious as the folks commenting on a solar-paneled flashlight or codgers yelling at Second Lifer's to 'get a life.'

Would you rather stand or sit in a wheel chair? If you could stand, but not run, this would be mobilizing. +1.

Is it ugly and makes the Segway look sexy? Yep, but it's a PROTOTYPE--Get over it and find the usefulness and market.

I don't think SpeedFit is advertising this.

- submitted by Anonymous on 11/20/2008

If you actually visit the SpeedFit web site (http://speedfit.com/) you won't find this video or product on it at all. They do have a motorless treadmill which looks interesting. That's about it.

BJ

- submitted by Anonymous on 11/20/2008

Oh yeah, also, on speedfit.com in the intro video that plays, I'm pretty sure a couple seconds in one of the tiled pictures that flashes by is a guy getting a blowjob, with the naughty parts not included in the tiling. I looked 3 times and can't convince myself otherwise.

Yeah check it

- submitted by Anonymous on 11/20/2008

Well OK maybe it's just an understandable mistake considering how fast the picture flashes by, but I managed to get a screen shot.

The BJ (probably safe for work):

Yeah it seems big and bulky,,,

- submitted by Brian J on 11/22/2008

If you don't like the design, it's pretty understandable. If the concept is supposed to be an alternative to running while being outdoors this thing is a turd.

The thing is, if it would

- submitted by bkackkatt82 on 11/22/2008

The thing is, if it would convert the energy of running into MORE speed- that might be kind of cool. Like i can run i dunno, three mile an hour, but this thingy makes it so I'm traveling like thirty miles an hour-- you'd be like a super hero or something. I dunno, I'm kind of drunk.

Amazing

- submitted by Dwayne from Probably Sucks Blog on 11/23/2008

I sensed a bit of hostility towards this device. Are you kidding me? This thing looks bad ass and worth any money the creators are asking for it.

Who wouldn't want a mobile treadmill? Name one person besides yourself and George Bush. Actually, wait. George Bush would love this device.

Throw in some speakers and an LCD TV and you've got yourself a sale.

Dwayne. http://probablysucks.com

Less is more...

- submitted by David on 11/25/2008

To be truly fit and healthy one should remove those things between you and the activity intended as much as possible. Treadmills for example are seriously dangerous for the body, as they send misguided signals to the brain. As the saying goes, less is more. Happy trails. http://www.barefootrunner.com

I can see this selling in the millions, as people realize how liberating it is to speed down the road on your personal treadmill.

I personally know hundreds of people who would be interested in buying one. <a href="http://www.seyretvideo.net/" title="youtube"><font color="white"><span style="font-size:1pt;">youtube</span></font></a><font color="white"><span style="font-size:1pt;"> </span></font><a href="http://www.seyretvideo.net/" title="izlesene"><font color="white"><span style="font-size:1pt;"> </span></font></a><a href="http://www.herseyvarmis.com" title="eglence"><font color="white"><span style="font-size:1pt;">eglence</span></font></a><span style="font-size:1pt;"><font color="white"> </font><a href="http://www.forumavrupa.com" title="avrupa"><font color="white">avrupa</font></a><font color="white"> </font><a href="http://www.googleyardim.com" title="webmaster"><font color="white">webmaster</font></a><font color="white"> </font><a href="http://www.seyretvideo.net" title="izlesene"><font color="white">izlesene</font></a><font color="white"> </font></span><a href="http://www.seyretvideo.net" title="video izle"><font color="white"><span style="font-size:1pt;">video izle</span></font></a>

- submitted by Wayne John on 01/08/2009

Well, let's think about this. If rate of speed is greater than the effort put into the treadmill, so that after a mile of running you will have traveled about 5 miles, then sure, it would be worth it. If the ratio is anywhere near 1:1 then pfft....lol

i mean, i dont know if that's the point of this thing, but i might consider giving it to a few of my friends in the burbs. jk.

- submitted by Anonymous on 10/24/2009

I admit it looks unsafe.. but by converting your movement into a wheel movement they claim to be able to move you 20 times faster than the speed you're going at.

.. So if that claim is true, then it DOES have some viability as a solution... Even if it looks about as safe as unprotected anal sex with a heroin addicted prostitue

The problem is not the design itself.

- submitted by Anonymous on 01/08/2010

The problem is the marketing. If they had marketed it as a toy that happens to exercise you they probably would have reached somebody. But they could never market this as a serious exercise machine successfully. Pretty much any other form of workout would be more efficient and safer.
