Up front...I'm a progressive. I want Obama to succeed. But it's a given...Biden is, if not stupid, a dope. His comments this morning about swine flu were unmistakeable: I'm telling my family to avoid airplanes, subways, confined spaces like classrooms (and presumably offices), etc....you gotta problem with that?

Pretty idiotic on its face, given the President's & Administration's contrary position...not to mention all the Federal Health authorities' advisories.

Biden's message: Really, we ought to confine ourselves to our homes -- maybe our toxic-free safe rooms? -- until (if?) all this horror ends. We're f**ked, basically, and the country would be better off shut down than its people -- well, at least his family -- engaging in normal, economy-saving activities like school, work, commuting...consuming, spending, etc. 

The guy made his comments on TV. They're taped; they're all over the internet. Yet, minutes later, everybody from the Administration except the Obama dog came out and said, actually, Biden didn't say that at all; what he said, really was exactly what the Obama position has been: If you don't have to, don't fly to Mexico; if you're sick, try to stay home. 

Except that's a lie. It's a ridiculous, insulting in-our-faces lie because we all heard or saw what Biden said.

Is is possible for our political leaders not to lie? Even when the evidence -- when they know we know the evidence -- completely exposes the lie? Republicans, Democrats...can't any of them ever simply tell the truth? Isn't this supposed to be the start of a new era...transparency, ethics, and all that? Right. A simple, Joe made a bad, he misspoke, he regrets it, etc., would've been so easy...and so not depressing and reflective of the same old...

The only one who did tell the truth is the biggest dope of them all. Biden may well be wrong -- that there should be concern about subways, etc.  But at least he spoke his own truth: that he's concerned, that he told his family to be concerned and that, whatever else his own Admin is saying, he doesn't give a s**t. When it comes to safety and health, he'll be the judge.

For that we owe the VP at least some small thanks. He may be one of the few left who -- because he's constitutionally incapable of editing any of his thoughts -- actually tells the truth.
