Deer Are Our Friends. . . Not!

We woke up this morning and saw 8 deer in our backyard. Eight!

It's freezing out. Dobbs Ferry, NY, around here. What's to eat. They live on my property. Two were stretched out across the jungle gym. One had a leg through the swing.

We went outside and a big one, the dad?, starting approaching me. He clicked his feet. His hoofs? He was mad. We were invading his space. His play set. His family's play set.

Soon they'll be asking us to pay them rent.

I know our town wants to shoot them, or already did. Can't we send them somewhere, like Wyoming, Dick Cheney's ranch, somewhere other than my house?...read more rants

you're being a baby, deerhater. deer aren't going to hurt you, leave them alone, you'll be fine.

other day we went to car in our driveway, and one of the deer charged us. he stopped. but he wasn't so cute and happy!

ever hear of lyme disease, deerfool? i have. i got it and it sucks. central ct, stamford area, it's all over.

spare me the you'll be fine.

i'm sorry about your lyme

- submitted by deerlover on 02/03/2007

i'm sorry about your lyme disease, i am. but you can prevent it if you check for ticks.

what, should we kill any animal that might potentially cause us harm?

i checked for ticks. i check

i checked for ticks. i check my kids for ticks. it's impossible to find them all.

ever try checking in thick curly hair?

there are alternatives to killing them.

cheney's ranch

i like the idea of sending them to vp cheney's ranch. he can shoot them by 'accident,' then try to keep it secret.

obviously, lots of towns

- submitted by deerserious on 02/03/2007

obviously, lots of towns have tried to control deer.

i love the "net and bolt" euphemism (sp?). sounds humane? somehow using a pistol to shoot a steel bolt into the deer's head through his brain doesn't sound too comfortable.

leave them alone. why not go after squirrels, there's more of them. then field mice.

squirrels are rats

- submitted by jason11 on 02/03/2007

i think going after squirrels is a fine idea. they're rodents, eat my garbage, are too stupid to get out of way of cars.

let's keep the deer and "control" the squirrels!

agree about squirrels. very

agree about squirrels. very underrated pests. don't like deer either, at least they're cute.

bolts in brains? awful. cheney's ranch much better idea. inspired!

what are you talking about

- submitted by you dont need to know on 02/03/2007

deer are great even if they do make life difficult sometimes but they do a lot for nature too oh and im sure they didnt charge at you unless they had rabies i think that you are completely over exagerating!!!

deer aren't so bad, i agree.

- submitted by jamie on 02/03/2007

deer aren't so bad, i agree. i suspect the charging was exaggerated. but i've had a couple deer in my yard approach me while i was taking out the garbage.

one was pretty big. i yelled something silly, and they didn't leave, they just stood there. i left, and they stayed.

if deer feel cornered or threatened, they can get aggressive. problem is they're hungry, have nowhere to go, not enough food in their natural habitat.

i love deer. they're

- submitted by deergirl on 02/03/2007

i love deer. they're beautiful and harmless.

worry about real things. like unleashed barking dogs. my neighborhood is filled with them. the neighbors do nothing.
