Burb Juice- added on 02/16/2007![]() Bad Commute? It'll Be Getting Worse![]() Longer More Irritating Commutes. They're fast approaching, according to a report in Forbes. Certainly faster than your commuter train usually approaches your station . . . 20 minutes late. Commuting times and distances have been escalating the past couple decades, Forbes reports. So much, in fact, that the U.S. Census recently coined a term, "Extreme Commuting" to define the growing numbers whose one-way commutes to work now exceed 90 minutes. Right now, there are around 3.3 million Extreme Commuters; over 10 million people have 1-hour-plus commutes. Any good news? Not really. (Although I-Pods are getting smaller and holding more music, and satellite radio is getting easier to install in cars - so car commuting can be made a little more entertaining.) But, the bad news: It's actually getting worse in the burbs. According to Forbes, city-to-suburb commuting is increasing, and so is suburb-to-suburb. In other words, more people are coming to suburbia or staying here and working. Of course, that means more people to commiserate with. And (silver lining), more stuff on Burbia to share and rant about! markbecker ??Fri, 02/16/2007 ?? 14:34
