Fed up with speeding cars near his corner, Dale Rooks improvised. He grabbed a hair dryer from his closest, wrapped it in duct tape to give it a metallic look, and pointed it menacingly above his shoulders at all speeding cars, a la the highest of high-tech radar guns. Since Rooks began blowing hot air at cars, speeding has completely disappeared in Pensacola, Florida (at least on his watch). And for those wet-haired kids fresh out of the shower walking to school in the morning, there's nothing like a free quick blow dry by Dale as they scurry through his crosswalks. ...Learn about more heroes.
